Capers rally past Sea Hawks

Down 17 points at halftime, the Cape Breton University Capers exploded for 49 second half points to rally past the visiting Memorial Sea Hawks 66-60 in AUS women’s basketball action Saturday night at the Sullivan Fieldhouse in Sydney.
Eastside Mario's Player of the Game Cassie Cooke poured in a game high 29 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Capers, who held the visiting Sea Hawks to just eight points in the final quarter.
Stephanie Toxopeus finished with 10 points and six rebounds for CBU while Vicki Thistle chipped in with nine points and seven boards in a winning cause.
Capers all-star guard Jahlica Kirnon struggled from the field, finishing with just five points, but contributed eight assists, six steals and five rebounds as CBU improved to 4-5 on the season.
Alexandria Forsey had 12 points to lead four Memorial players who finished in double digits.
Tiffany McMillon, Robyn O’Reilly and Kim Devison had 10 points apiece for the visitors.
The two clubs will square off again Sunday in a 1 p.m. start at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
