Toxopeus named Subway AUS Female Athlete of the Week

Stephanie Toxopeus of the Cape Breton Capers women’s basketball team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week and the Capers Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 29, 2012.

Toxopeus, a fifth-year post from Kanata, Ont., averaged 22.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of wins over the UNB Varsity Reds this past weekend as the three-time reigning AUS champion Capers won their sixth consecutive regular season game to sit in a tie for third place in the AUS standings.

In Friday’s 86-78 win, Stephanie was named the Subway player of the game after netting 25 points and grabbing seven rebounds. In Saturday’s, a 100-61 victory, the 6-foot-3 senior registered her second double-double of the season with a 19-point, 14-rebound performance.

Toxopeus is averaging 11.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season for the Capers.
