Cooke named Capers Athlete of the Week

The Cape Breton University Capers women’s basketball team continues to roll, running their conference winning streak to 11 consecutive games with three victories last week.
The victories improved the Capers record to 14-5 on the season and helped them lock up second place in the AUS and a first-round playoff bye.
Cassie Cooke led the way for the Capers, averaging 31.3 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 3.3 assists per game and 2 steals per game in the three victories.
The 5’8” guard from Westminster, MD, opened the week with 30-point, 4 rebound performance as the Capers defeated their rivals, the StFX X-Women 84-56 in their final home game of the season last Wednesday.
Saturday in Halifax, Cooke poured in a career-high 38 points to go with 7 boards and 3 steals as CBU defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 89-75 in the first of two weekend contests.
Sunday, Cooke closed out her week with 26 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 27 minutes as the Capers once again defeated the Tigers, this time by a score of 76-62.
For the season, Cooke sits among the AUS leaders in several statistical categories, averaging 23.4 points per game (2nd), 4.36 assists per game (3rd), 1.79 steals per game (7th) and 6.2 rebounds per game (11th).
Cooke is a first year student in the Bachelor of Business Administration program in CBU’s Shannon School of Business.
The Capers will wrap up the 2011-2012 AUS regular season this Saturday when they travel to Charlottetown for a matchup with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.
