Capers wrap up regular season with win
Cassie Cooke had a big game for CBU, scoring a game-high 27 points and hauling down eight rebounds. Kayla McCarron followed with 16 and both Jahlica Kirnon and Stephanie Toxopeus followed with 13 points apiece.
The Capers held a 49-34 lead at halftime.
Jenna Jones paced the Panthers offence with 21 points. Terrilyn Herrick followed with nine.
Cape Breton (15-5) finish the regular season in second place and both they and first-place Acadia (17-3) earned a bye to Saturday’s semifinal round of the AUS championship this weekend at St. Francis Xavier University. The Capers will meet the wnner of Friday’s quarter-final between Saint Mary's and Dalhousie at 8 p.m., after Acadia playsthe StFX-MUN quarter-final winner at 6 p.m. The semifinal winners play for the AUS title Sunday at 2 p.m.
Friday’s quarter-finals will see the fourth-place Memorial Sea-Hawks (10-10) play the fifth-place X-Women (10-10) at 6 p.m., while the third-place Saint Mary’s Huskies (12-8) challenge the sixth-place Dalhousie Tigers (8-12) at 8 p.m.
