Capers nip Panthers 66-60
The Cape Breton University Capers defeated the UPEI Panthers in AUS Women's basketball action at Sullivan Fieldhouse in Sydney on Friday night. The Capers rode a strong third quarter to a 66-60 victory over the Panthers.
Colleen Keane and Allison Keough led the way on offence for the Capers, netting 16 points each in the win. Keane also added 12 rebounds and four assists, while Keough grabbed seven rebounds for the Capers.
"I didn't really have anything on my mind" Skeir said, "I was just focused on the next three, the next shot that I had. I had to take it and knock it down."
The Capers and Panthers played to a 30-30 tie at halftime, but CBU separated themselves after winning the third quarter 23-11. UPEI made a run late in the fourth quarter, but the Capers were able to hold on for the victory.
The Capers surpassed UPEI in the AUS standings with the win on Friday and claimed second place behind Saint Mary's. The two teams have a rematch at Sullivan Fieldhouse at 1pm on Saturday, where they will continue to jostle for second place in the AUS standings.
