Huskies rally past Capers
SYDNEY, N.S)-The Saint Mary's University Huskies rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Cape Breton University Capers in AUS Women's basketball action at Sullivan Fieldhouse on Saturday night. The Huskies picked up a big four points after defeating the Capers by a score of 66-60.
Angelina Carvery had an outstanding fourth quarter for Saint Mary's and was able to power the Huskies to victory. Carvery picked up some big buckets down the stretch and finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse was also a large contributor in the Huskies' win with 19 points and four assists. Meanwhile, Laura Langille added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Saint Mary's.
For the Capers, Rasheeka Gunn and Allison Keough were both superb in the loss. Gunn had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while shooting 6-8 from the field. Keough went to work in the post throughout the contest, leading all scorers with 22 points to go along with six rebounds.
Cape Breton controlled the game through the first three and a half quarters and led by as many as 11, but were unable to close out the game. Some costly turnovers late in the fourth quarter prevented the Capers from getting some crucial baskets and were a major factor in their loss.
The Capers dropped to 9-9 on the season with the loss and sit in fourth place in the AUS standings. This was the Capers final home game of the season, and they will play their final games of the regular season next weekend at Dalhousie. They play at 6 p.m. on February 20th and at 2 p.m. on the 21st.
