The Cape Breton University Capers overcame a rocky start to defeat the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks 66-53 in AUS women's basketball action Saturday evening in Sydney.
The Capers (5-2) shot just 19 per cent in the first half and trailed 26-23 heading into the locker room. The final 20 minutes were a different story, with the home side firing at a 46 per cent clip enroute to the win.
Subway Player of the Game Alison Keough poured in a game high 27 points and added 10 rebounds and four steals for the winners.
Colleen Keane added 13 points and nine boards for the Capers while Adrianna Beck chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.
Sydney Ezekiel had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Memorial (0-7) while Sydney Stewart finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds in a losing cause.
The two squads will be at it again Sunday in another four-point matchup at the Sullivan Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
