The Cape Breton Capers opened the second half of the AUS women's basketball season on a losing note, dropping a 73-69 decision to the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Friday in Sydney.
Alison Keough had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Capers (5-4) while Colleen Keane chipped in with 13 poinst and seven boards in a losing cause.
Laura Kaye had 20 points for the Varsity Reds (5-3) while Grace Wade chipped in with 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Rachel Cleary added 10 points for the winners.
The Capers will be back in action Wednesday for a road game with the StFX X-Men before returning home for a rematch with their Antigonish rivals Saturday at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
