Capers sweep pair from Panthers

The Cape Breton Capers picked up a pair of wins over the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in a weekend home stand in AUS women's basketball action Saturday and Sunday in Sydney.

Sunday, Alison Keough had 21 points and 17 rebounds to pace the Capers to a 63-50 victory.

Jalynn Skeir added 12 points, four rebounds and three assists while Colleen Keane had 10 points and nine boards as the Capers improved to 9-4 overall.

Jane McLaughlin has 19 points and 17 rebounds tor the Panthers, who fell to 3-11 on the season.

Tamara Tompkins added 13 points in a losing cause.

Saturday, Keane filled the score sheet for the Capers, finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and three assists as the home side cruised to a 94-52 win.

Skeir with 15 points and Keough with 14 points and nine rebounds were other top players for the Capers.

Hannah Brown added 13 points in 14 minutes off the bench while Natasha Roach rounded out the CBU players in double digits with 11 points.

Kiera Rigby had 14 points for the Panthers.

The Capers will be on the road this weekend when they take on the Acadia Axewomen Friday and Saturday in Wolfville.
