Sydney, NS - The Cape Breton University CAPERS dropped a close game to McGill University 71-64 on the second day of the Debbie Ruiz Memorial Tournament at the Sullivan Field House on Saturday night. With the loss the CAPERS are now 1-1 and McGill is also 1-1. Both teams remain in the hunt for 1st place Sunday.
Allison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) led the CAPERS with 23 points and 7 rebounds and guard Valentina Primossi (Trieste, IT) added 18 points and 8 assists.The game went back and forth throughout and was tight until the final minutes. Jennifer Silver led the Martletts with 23 points.
Both teams are in action on Sunday. McGill(1-1) will play the University of New Brunswick (0-2) at 11am and the CAPERS (1-1) will host the University of Toronto (2-0) at 1pm.
Debbie Ruiz was an all-star and AUS champion guard for the CAPERS who recently passed away from cancer.
