CAPERS WOMEN WIN HOME OPENER!
CBU defeats Acadia 79-58
(Sydney, N.S.) - The Cape Breton CAPERS took advantage if a full house at the Sullivan Field House to show their home fans what they could do on Friday night. The CAPERS defeated the Acadia Axewomen 79-58 in their home opener.
The CAPERS received strong play from Allison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS), Valentina Primossi (Trieste, IT) and Jalynn Skier (Halifax, NS) to lead to them to a convincing win. Acadia was led by Chanel Smith(Halifax, NS) with 20 points. Keough had a game high 30 points and 12 rebounds. Primossi and Skier provided strong guard play with 16 and 14 point each. Keough was named the Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.
Cape Breton took a 21-8 lead in the 1st quater and never looked back. Keough was dominant down low in the post and Hannah Brown(North Sydney, NS) also used her size to create opportunities. The CAPERS held a big edge in shooting percentage on the night as they shot 45.2% from the field compared to only 29.2 percent by Acadia.
With the win the CAPERS move to 2-1 and Acadia falls to 0-3 with the loss. Both teams return to action on Saturday night at the Sullivan Field House, tip off at 6pm.
