CAPERS WOMEN WIN CLOSE ONE!!
CBU defeat Acadia 73-72
Sydney, N.S) - The CAPERS earned their second win of the weekend in nail-biting fashion on Saturday night at the Sullivan Field House. The CAPERS won a tight battle with the Acadia Axewomen 73-72. The CAPERS overcame a slow start and finished strong to move to 3-1 on the season. The Axewomen fell to 0-4 to start the AUS season.
The CAPERS were led in scoring by all-star Allison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) with 22 points and 12 rebounds. CBU also had strong performances from Colleen Keane (Scarborough, ON) with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The Axewomen were led by Paloma Anderson (Phoenix, AZ) with 16 points and 11 rebounds and received strong post play from Alexandra Berry (Yarmouth, NS) with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Keane was named the Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.
The Axewomen came out of the gate with some hot shooting and raced out to a 19-10 lead to end the 1st quarter. The CAPERS put a sluggish 1st half behind them and battled back outscoring their opponents in the 3rd quarter 25-14. The game remained close to the final buzzer and ultimately came down to foul shooting. Hannah Brown was fouled with 21 seconds left and the CAPERS down by 1. She calmly drained both foul shots to put the CAPERS in the lead. On Acadia's final possession Alexandra Berry was fouled with 4 seconds but missed both shots.
The CAPERS will next travel to Newfoundland on November 19th and 20th to square off against Memorial University. The Axewomen will return home to host the UPEI Panthers on November 18th and 19th.
The CAPERS next home game will be Wednesday, November 23rd against St. Francis Xavier.
