Weekly Award Winners

Tara Rogers of the CIS No. 10-ranked Cape Breton Capers women’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week and the M&M Meat Shops Capers Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 23, 2012.

Rogers, a fifth-year midfielder from Cole Harbour, N.S., chipped in offensively and was also a standout defensively as she helped the first place Capers remain undefeated this past weekend, registering two goals in two important road wins.

In Saturday’s come-from-behind victory over the defending AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers, Tara tied the game on a penalty kick in the 41st minute as CBU went on to post a 3-2 victory over the Tigers in Halifax.

In Sunday’s 2-1 win at Saint Mary’s, after falling behind 1-0, Rogers set-up Kara MacKinnon’s game-tying goal in the 45th minute to send the teams into halftime at 1-1. She then netted the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 55th minute as the Capers improved to 5-0-0 on the season.

With her first two goals of the season, Rogers now leads the Capers in scoring and is tied for fifth in AUS scoring.
