Blain, Greedy named CBU Athletes of the Year
April 3, 2014
Cape Breton University honoured their student athletes at the 40th Annual Athletic Awards Banquet which was held at Membertou Trade & Convention Centre, Sydney Thursday.
Soccer stars Karolyne Blain and Ian Greedy were recognized as CBU Female and Male Athletes of the Year for their accomplishments during the 2013-2014 season.
Blain, a third-year BSc student from Copper Cliff, ON electrified AUS fans this past fall, scoring 14 goals in 13 games to claim the AUS scoring title and establish a new CBU single-season scoring record.
The 2011 AUS Rookie of the Year, Blain rebounded from an injury which kept her sidelined most of her sophomore season and was honoured as AUS Most Valuable Player while being named to CIS First Team All-Canadian.
Blain was also recognized with the CBU President's Award given to the CBU student-athlete with the top academic performance and as MVP of the women's soccer team.
Greedy, a fourth-year student-athlete from Lower Sackville, NS, also earned AUS Most Valuable Player honours this past season after winning his second AUS scoring title.
A CIS First Team All-Canadian, Greedy, who was AUS Rookie of the Year in 2010, also set a new standard for CBU men's soccer, establishing a new career scoring mark with 33 goals in four seasons.
