Hanna, Andrea commit to CBU

It's home-sweet-home for a pair of local soccer recruits who will call Cape Breton University home for the next stage of their playing careers.
Riverview High School's Becky Hanna and Meghan Andrea from Memorial High School have both committed to CBU and will suit up next season head coach Ness Timmons and the defending AUS champion Capers.
"I am very pleased these two girls have made CBU their university of choice," said Timmons, who has won the AUS Coach of the Year award six times, including the past two seasons. "I have watched Meghan and Becky play for many years and they have been terrific. They have proven themselves at the provincial level.
They are great competitors and great students and we are looking forward to having these two join our Capers family in the fall."
CBU has captured seven AUS banners and the 2007 CIS national title during Timmons' time at the helm and that sustained success was a big part of the reason Hanna and Andrea chose to join a program which hasn't lost a regular season game in more than two years.
"CBU has one of the most highly respected women's soccer programs in the country," said Hanna, the daughter of John and Janice Hanna of Howie Centre. "Not only have they had an unbelievable amount of success over the years, but they have coaching staff that is second to none. I'm absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to become a part of such an outstanding program and to have it right here in my backyard is definitely an added bonus."
"I decided to come to CBU because I grew up watching and admiring the Capers soccer team and to have the opportunity to play on one of the top teams in the country is a dream come true," added Andrea, who is the daughter of Brian and Wanda Andrea of Sydney Mines.
Both players have enjoyed tremendous success at the local and provincial levels, winning numerous titles and representing the Nova Scotia at Atlantic and National championship events.
Hanna and Andrea also become the second pair of highly sought after local soccer stars to choose CBU in recent years following in the footsteps of Chelsea Currie and Kara MacKinnon two seasons ago. Both Currie and MacKinnon have become impact players for the Capers with Currie earning AUS Rookie of the Year honours in her first season.
The Capers will kick off defence of their AUS title on September 7th when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies in a 1 p.m. start at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex on the CBU campus.
