Why did you choose to come to CBU?

I chose to come to CBU because I felt that it was an opportunity that was too good to pass up. I particularly liked the small class sizes and the personable faculty, the team chemistry, the coaching staff and the success of the soccer program. It is incredible that CBU – a relatively small university compared to other Canadian institutions – has the success that it does, not only among the Atlantic provinces but throughout the whole country as well.  

What is your pre-game routine and how long have you been doing it?

My pre-game routine isn’t very specific. I make sure to eat carbs the night before a game as well as the day of the game. I also make sure I’m hydrated. In the warm up, I try and make sure that my muscles are warm and properly stretched.

What do you do in your free time?

My family and I really enjoy travelling when we get a chance. Otherwise, during my free time I like to relax either by reading, watching TV shows or going out for a hike or to the beach.

What is your best memory from playing your sport?

There are a lot of really memorable moments, but I would have to say my best memory would be winning the provincial high school soccer championship (OFSAA) in 2010. In our quarter-final game, we were down 2-1 at the half. Within minutes of regulation time, we scored to tie the game and again scored within the last minute of overtime. We then went on to win gold!

If you weren’t playing this sport, what would you be doing and why?

If I weren’t playing soccer, I think that I would still be really involved in other sports. High school allowed me to try different sports many of which I loved! However, I don’t think I would’ve been able to experience playing at the varsity level if I wasn’t playing soccer.

When did you start playing your sport? How did you get started?

My mom registered me for soccer at the age of four, mainly I think because she preferred the cost of soccer as opposed to hockey.

What is your favourite place to eat and why?

I love to find restaurants that are not chains and serve unique dishes. Some of my Cape Breton favourites include Flavour, The Olive Tree and The Dancing Goat.

Where would you go for your dream vacation and why?

I’ve been before, but I would love to go to Disney World again. No matter how old you are, you can’t help but feel like a kid again.

How did playing sports improve your university experience?

Playing sports has made my university experience so fulfilling. It has been one of the most challenging, but rewarding experiences! You are constantly pushed to your physical and mental limits, but you’re doing it with a group of girls that are in the same boat. We learn to face defeat and success together and how to support one another. So many characteristics you must learn as a varsity athlete can be carried off the field and into our future.
