The Cape Breton University Capers women`s soccer team split their weekend set with the Memorial Sea-Hawks.
Sunday, CBU eked out a 2-1 victory.
Keona Simmonds fired the winning goal for the Capers in the 80th minute of play. Simmonds is second in the conference with eight goals this season.
CBU's Alyssa Armstrong scored in the 22nd minute, after MUN's Hannah Rivkin opened the scoring in the 10th minute.
The Capers improved to 5-2-1 on the season. Both CBU and St. Francis Xavier (5-1-1) are tied for most points in the conference at 16, but the X-Women have a game in hand.
Fourth-place Memorial fell to 4-1-2.
In Saturday's tilt, Karolyne Blain scored CBU's lone tally in the match in the 36th minute, but the Capers fell 2-1.
Maria MacKey of the Sea-Hawks scored the winner in the 69th minute, while Memorial's Emily Bailey opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
The Capers are off this coming weekend for Thanksgiving, but return to the pitch on Oct. 16 when they host St. Francis Xavier at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex turf in a 5 p.m. start.
