CAPERS top UNB Varsity Reds 2-1 in season opener!
(Sydney, N.S.) - The Cape Breton University Women Capers defeated the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in front of 250 at CBU Field in Sydney. The highly anticipated home opener kicked off the defending AUS champions 2016 Atlantic University Sport soccer season.
For the CAPERS Keona Simmonds (Brampton, ON) had a goal and an assist, while Chelsea Currie (Coxheath, NS) had one goal and Tamara Brown(Whitby, ON) had one assist. Subway Player of the Game for the CAPERS was Becky Hanna (Howie Centre, NS).Scoring for the UNB Reds was Lauren Cubbon in the 42nd minute.
The defending conference champion CAPERS accumulated 10 shots while giving up 5 shots and controlled the majority of possession in the first half before defending well in the second half.
The CAPERS play again on Sunday afternoon at 1pm. They will be hosting the UPEI Panthers in both teams second game of the season. This contest can be seen on AUStv.ca.
