CAPERS WOMEN LOCK UP FIRST PLACE
Cape Breton secures first round bye to the semifinals with 3-1 victory over X
Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton University Women's Soccer team took care of business on a rainy Saturday afternoon at CBU field. The CAPERS defeated St. Francis Xavier University 3-1 to lock up first place and a bye in the upcoming AUS playoffs. The CAPERS (11-1-0) and X-Women (6-2-4) battled the elements all day in high winds to finish off the regular season. By finishing the season at the top of the AUS standings, the CAPERS will go straight to the semifinals on Friday evening. St. Fx will finish 4th and have to play a quarterfinal game on Thursday evening.
Prior to the game the CAPERS recognized their seniors by making presenting Tamara Brown (Whitby, ON), Chelsea Currie (Coxheath, NS), Alyssa Armstrong (St. John's, NL), Lysianne Trottier (Barrie, ON) and Robyn Novorolsky (Richmond Hill, ON) with gifts of appreciation. All the seniors were in the starting 11 and played strong games in the CAPERS victory. Scoring for the CAPERS in their victory was Keona Simmonds (Brampton, ON) Chelsea Currie and Ciera DiSipio (Ottawa, ON). Replying for the X-Women was Elise Brennan (Brookside, NS) who scored in the second half to round out the scoring game. DiSipio was named player of the game for her efforts. Trottier was in goal for the victory, while Nicole MacDonald (Kanata, ON) took the loss for the X-women.
The CAPERS host the 2016 Subway AUS Women's Soccer Championships November 3rd to 6th. The quarterfinals start on Thursday night at 5pm and 7.30pm. The semifinals go Friday night at 5pm and 7.30pm with the final being held Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
