Sydney, NS – The host team and #1 seed Cape Breton University CAPERS took care of their semi-final of the 2018 Subway Women's Soccer Championship against the #6 seed Memorial Seahawks. The CAPERS used a fast start to come away with a 2-0 victory.
The CAPERS came out aggressive and Madison Goodliffe (Mississauga, ON) scored 2 minutes in. The CAPERS continued to pin the Seahawks in their own end. Ciera Disipio (Ottawa, ON) scored off of a goal-mouth scramble in the 26' minute. The first half ended with the CAPERS ahead 2-0 and outshooting the Seahawks 10-2. The CAPERS were able to playa possession game in the second half and defended their 2-0 lead until the 90' minute.
Rachel Yerxa (Mississauga, ON) earned the victory and clean sheet for the CAPERS by turning away 4 shots. Sydney Walsh (St.John's NL) stopped 15 of 17 shots and took the loss for Memorial.
With the win, the CAPERS will now face their biggest rival, the St.FX X-Women for the AUS Championship on Sunday. Kick off at 1 pm.
