Sydney, NS - It was a very cool calm day on the field as the Capers women's soccer team took on Moncton and easily got the 6-1 win. Moncton came out attacking sending shots down the field and on a great break by Cathrine Dupuis to put one past the CBU keeper Haley Kardas (Halifax N.S) to get an early lead against the home team. CBU changed around the formation a bit and it worked! In the 11th minute, Makenna King (Barrie, ON) scored a dazzling goal getting past multiple defenders, to tie the game at 1-1. In the 13th minute, Erin Freeman (Halifax N.S) had another great look at the goal, but it was just above the crossbar. In the 17th minute Allyiah Rowe (Kitchener, ON) had a good look at the goal but again the capers went just wide! The CBU Capers midfielders did a great job keeping the ball away from their keeper, letting Haley Kardas focus on directing her team where to go and help them see the field. Allyiah Rowe had an amazing dribble move in the 21st minute that led to a great look but a great save by the Moncton keeper Chelsea Burnham that kept the score tied. Allyiah Rowe would not be stopped! She kept pouring on the pressure and she was rewarded by a great goal unassisted to give the capers the 2-1 lead. In the 35th minute, Cape Breton's Erin Freeman had another great look but it went just wide. In the 43rd-minute the Capers keeper had to make a save as a Moncton chip shot got through the defense. Right before the halftime whistle blew the Capers got a great goal by Erin Freeman (Halifax NS) that gave the capers a 3-1 lead going into halftime. In the 48th minute Rachel Leck (Pickering ON) had a great assist to Caleigh McPherson (New Waterford, NS) to get past the Moncton keeper that gave the Capers a demanding 4-1 lead early in the second half.
Even though the Capers scored a lot of points the lead was held because of defense! The Capers let one goal in and after that it was complete shutdown making it difficult for Moncton to even get the ball in the capers end. The capers had a few great looks at the net but the Moncton keeper stood strong making two great back-to-back saves! The pressuring Capers got another great look and Alliyah Rowe made it count because in the 65th minute she scored to give the Capers the dominating 5-1 lead. The final goal of the game came in the 81st minute, Ciera Disipio (Ottawa, ON) scored a gorgeous goal where she used a combination of great dribble moves with great coordination and got a great strike while on the ground that gave the Capers a bigger lead of 6-1 which would be the final score!
You can catch the CAPERS in their next game at home Saturday, November 5th at 3:00 PM when they take on Mount Allison.
