In a recent Zoom conversation – as part of the Caper Athletics All-Decade Team Series - head coach Stephen 'Ness' Timmons and assistant coach Robert White unveiled the program's squad. Watch Here!!
The pair said coming up with the list, considering the quality student-athletes that have been part of the program, was no easy task.
"It is like any team – I guess – you have your no-brainers, and you have some in the middle, and then there are some that could go either way," Timmons offered.
In making their choices, they not only considered on-field performance – both individual and team success – but also, as Timmons noted "character and leadership qualities," along with academic accomplishments.
"We finally whittled it down – and it wasn't easy – to two squads of 11," he said.
Karolyn Blain, who tops the AUS with 53 career goals – coming in only four seasons, is one of the standouts on the first team.
"She was magical," Timmons said, noting her number has been retired by Caper Athletics.
He marveled at her character and personality; not to mention the leadership abilities of the former team captain.
"She would be the last one picking up cones on the far side of the field – not saying a word about it, when we were cleaning up after a rainy practice," Timmons said.
"It was those kinds of things that everybody respected."
After rattling off a few of her many accolades, including three-time first-team All-Canadian status, White added "we could talk all day about Karolyn."
Ciera Disipio is another first-team member that left an indelible mark.
"How did she get on that team – who picked her?" Timmons joked about the Ottawa native.
He said "we are sure glad she came here," adding Disipio was a "leader from day one."
"And a captain for three years, too, and when you are a captain in your third year with the Capers, that's saying a lot about you," Timmons added.
White agreed.
"We could go all day – as far as character, and what she brought to the program," he said of Disipio.
White noted he remembered her campus recruiting visit "vividly," including "how hard she struck a ball."
'We knew she was going to be something else with our program," he said.
