(St. John's) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks dropped a 1-0 decision to the Cape Breton Capers to wrap up the weekend series between the two teams.
Despite losing consecutive games this weekend, the Sea-Hawks showed much more quality in their play and pushed the Capers until the final minute. There was plenty of back-and-forth in the opening 30 minutes between the two sides, with the Sea-Hawks coming close to finding the back of the net on several occasions, to no avail. The Capers would jump ahead in the 34th minute off a strike from defender Fatou Ndiaye after she found a loose ball in the box. For the remainder of the first half, the Sea-Hawks continued to push for the equalizer but were prevented by a stingy Capers back line. At the end of the first half of play, the Capers led the Sea-Hawks on the shot clock 6-4.
The Sea-Hawks entered the second half in desperate need of finding the equalizer in the final 45 minutes. However, this would be no easy task for the home side, the Capers haven't allowed a goal on the season and were trying their best to keep their streak of clean sheets alive. Despite their best efforts, the back line of the Capers was too strong to beat, and they even forced Capers goalkeeper Haley Kardas to be at her best, stopping all 3 shots directed her way in the second half. The Sea-Hawks would end the game with the lead in shots, 8-6, but could not find the back of the net.
Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Sydney Walsh was solid when called upon, stopping 4/5 shots directed at goal, while Capers goalkeeper Haley Kardas stopped all 4 of the shots she faced.
