CAPERS win record-tying 12th AUS title

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Amelia Carlini's (Ottawa, Ont.) goal in the 27^th minute is all the Cape Breton Capers needed to become the 2002 AUS Subway women's soccer champion as the Capers handed the Dalhousie Tigers a 1-0 loss.

"It feels amazing to work that hard and just get the chance to come out with a victory," said Alliya Rowe (Kitchener, Ont.) following the game.

"It was, honestly, a little unlucky. I knew if I kept on trying, eventually one would go in. We kept pressuring the goalie and they began to lose confidence once we got more strikes on net. We came out with the victory in the end," added Rowe after being told she had 8 shots on net within the box.

For Rowe's performance throughout the championship tournament, she was honoured as the AUS Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

The Caper's offensive fire power was relentless, accumulating 21 shots, forcing Dalhousie's Annabel Gravely (Toronto, Ont.) to make six saves. On the other end of the field, Capers' keeper Haley Kardas (Halifax, N.S.) was tested by six shots.

Amelia Carlini, who was named the Subway Player of the Game, took three shots and landed one shot on net from her striker position.

Tiger Hannah Firstbrook (Nepean, Ont.) was named the Dalhousie Subway Player of the Game.

This year's championship win is the twelfth title for the Capers under head coach Ness Timmons, the first coming in 2003 – a 3-1 win over Dalhousie.

The Tiger loss is their first this season after posting a regular season record of 8-0-4.

The Capers will head to Quebec City, Que., representing the AUS, for the U SPORTS 2022 women's soccer national championship tournament hosted by Laval University beginning on November 10^th.
