Capers Extend Undefeated Streak with a 3-0 Victory over Mount Allison

SYDNEY – The first place Cape Breton University (CBU) Capers (4-0-1) defeated the Mount Allison Mounties (0-5-0) in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Ness Timmons Soccer Field.
Leah Disipio (Ottawa, ON) garnered the first scoring chance for either side, but her left-footed strike just missed the mark outside the left post in the opening couple of minutes.
In the 10th minute, Victoria Jones (Ajax, ON) – the Mounties player of the game - had an opportunity off a corner kick but she could not test CBU's freshman keeper Tara Isama (Dundalk, ON).
A couple of minutes later, Ally Rowe (Kitchener, ON) potted her AUS-leading seventh goal of the regular season, after collecting a cross from Grace Hannaford (Enfield, NS), who was sent down the wing by a sensational feed from Ally Wilton (Bedford, NS).
Seconds later, with her team leading 1-0, Disipio darted down the wing to gather a through ball but she could not solve Mount Allison keeper Katie Cabot (Cochrane, AB) from a sharp angle.
Sophomore Elle MacDougall (Georges River, NS), off the bench, made her presence felt – early and often – for the home side.
After taking a dish from Ally Rowe, she tried to tuck one in along the far post, but Cabot made an outstanding diving stop to keep the visitors within striking distance.
In the 41st minute, MacDougall threatened, once again, with Cabot making another great save. But, off the ensuing scramble, she gobbled up a rebound and tucked a left-footed strike inside the post to collect her first AUS goal to make it 2-0.
The Capers took that two-goal edge to the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Mounties tried to stage a rally, one sparked by the speed of Jones – the Mount Allison player of the match – who got behind the CBU defenders on a pair of occasions. On her first attempt, the shot went wide behind Isama, who made a sparkling save on the second opportunity.
Later in the opening minutes, Emma Tye (Bedford, NS) gathered a cross near the far post but her strike trickled wide just outside the goal post.
As the second half unfolded, the Capers reasserted their offensive push, but Cabot made a handful of stops to keep her side in the match.
In the 85th minute, Hannaford – after taking a stellar pass from Ally Rowe – volleyed a shot over a charging Cabot that bounded into the net to make it 3-0. It was the fifth marker of the AUS regular campaign for the Subway player of the match for the Capers.
CBU will be back on the pitch Saturday, Sept. 21, when they visit Les Aigles Bleues de Moncton, while Mount Allison will host the UPEI Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 22.
Each match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
