The Cape Breton University Capers women's soccer team closed out the AUS regular season on a winning note Sunday, posting a 1-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex on the CBU campus.
The Capers (10-2-1) finished in second spot in the AUS standings and earned an automatic berth in Friday's semifinals at the AUS championship tourney in Moncton, NB.
Keona Simmonds recorded the game's only goal in the 22nd minute, finishing off a perfect feed from Karolyne Blain.
The goal was the 13th of the year for Simmonds, earning her first AUS scoring title.
CBU will meet the highest advancing seed from Thursday's quarter-final matchups in a 7:15 p.m. start Friday in Moncton.
